Fire Department

The City of Elliot Lake Fire Service provides a 24-hour service made up of a Fire Chief, Emergency Management Coordinator who is also Administrative Assistant to the Chief, and a composite force of 34 firefighters - 9 fulltime firefighters and 25 volunteer firefighters.

For persons interested in joining the department as a part-time firefighter, also known as a volunteer, be advised that the volunteer firefighters have no set scheduled hours of work and are only called upon when the call-out warrants. There are however, regularly scheduled training sessions held every Wednesday evening. Completed applications are to be forwarded to the City's Human Resources Department.  At present there are no full-time positions available, however the volunteer firefighter compliment does at times have openings.  Applications are kept on file for six months.  Visit the Fire Department website for a volunteer firefighter application;  the link is as noted below.

The service has two fire pumpers and one 75-foot aerial ladder fire truck. In addition, their service includes 4x4 trucks used for bush fires, a 16-foot boat, and an ATV for use in search and rescue.
